1/21/2018 Got ELD?On December 18, 2017 Federal Regulators put into place a long-awaited electronic logging device or ELD Hours of Service rule that mandates motor carriers to use Electronic Logging Devices (ELD’s). This new mandate effectively replaces the complex, on-duty/ off-duty paper logs that have been in use – and often falsified – dating back to 1938. This automated technology not only brings logging records into the modern age, it allows roadside inspectors to unmask violations of federal law that put lives at risk. The FMCSA estimates ELD’s should prevent more than 1,800 crashes and 560 injuries and save 26 lives every year. The new law allows law enforcement to remove drivers from service and levy substantial fines to those companies not in compliance.
