Decontamination of Styrene Manufacturing Plant

Scope of Work:
  • Completely encapsulate the processing train using scaffolding systems, HAKI truss roofing and shrink-wrap methods.
  • Establish 24-hour negative air-pressure within the containment, using multiple negative air machines on each floor throughout the train.
  • Asbestos abatement of friable insulation of two styrene vessels utilized as blow down tanks. Multiple elbows and pipes containing TSI were abated throughout the train.
  • Sandblast all previously painted piping and structural steel to a nearly white finish using a copper slag to minimize waste. Collect waste with industrial HEPA vacuum directed loading into bins at a dump rate of once every 10 seconds
  • Wash down entire structure to eliminate any blasting residuals. Capture all waste water for sampling and appropriate disposal
  • Employ dehumidifiers to eliminate moisture and prevent rusting of blasted steel prior to priming.

  • Restoration of all insulation and paint to original specifications
  • Installation of custom sump and hook-up to existing storm drain system
  • Completed work in allotted time of five months using two crews, twenty four hours a day, six days a week for a  total of 23,000 man hours from start to finish.
